Bandits attack Zamfara communities, kill 13 and abduct dozens

Thirteen persons have been killed and over twenty people abducted on Wednesday as armed bandits attacked two communities in Zamfara State

The communities are the Riyoji community under the Birnin Tsaba district of Zurmi Local Government and the Magamin Tandu community of the Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area.

Police authority in Zamfara State confirmed the attacks to Channels Television on Thursday, saying the Command has deployed additional troops to the affected area for confidence-building patrol and to avert another planned attack on nearby communities.

It was gathered that bandits stormed the Riyoji community in the early hour of Wednesday and started shooting sporadically, killing no less than thirteen persons.

In a separate attack, over twenty persons were abducted in the Magamin Tandu community on Wednesday evening by armed bandits.

A resident of the community who pleaded anonymity for security reasons told Channels Television that the bandits invaded the place and conducted house-to-house searches in other to abduct residents.

“They entered from house to house, picking people from different houses,” the source narrated.

He said most of the victims are women, nursing mothers, and children.

Zurmi and Kaura-Namoda local governments in Zamfara North Zone have been experiencing various attacks for years which have forced many residents to abandon their homes for safer environments.
