CTP Chairman Tufan Erhürman said, “We will continue to exist by producing, to take root in these lands, and to raise our future generations in these lands.”
President of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman and the accompanying delegation attended the 3rd Güneşköy Traditional Pomegranate Fair yesterday evening.
Making the opening speech at the fair, CTP Chairman Erhürman emphasized that Turkish Cypriots will exist by producing. Erhürman was accompanied by Osman Bican, whom CTP announced as the mayor of Güzelyurt, CTP Güzelyurt District President Çağlar Gulamkadir and some deputies.
The CTP delegation visited the stands set up in the fair and listened to the problems of the people of the region.
CTP Chairman Erhürman, who started his speech by congratulating Güneşköy Muhtar Akay Darbaz for his contribution to the festival, reminded that the pomegranate has emerged as another promising product besides citrus fruits in the region not long ago.
Erhürman noted that they expected this product to develop rapidly at first, but that no hopeful situation emerged over the years. Emphasizing that at the beginning of the pomegranate production and in the middle of the work, it was seen that this product could be exported very easily, Erhürman said, “It was a product that we could use by increasing its added value. It was clearly seen that we could turn it into a product that could generate income both domestically and as an export product,” he said.
Emphasizing that the developments in the field were not exactly as they desired, Erhürman said, “This does not mean that it will be like this in the future as well.”
Pointing out that the pandemic has once again shown the whole world and Cyprus that production is the most important thing, Erhürman pointed out that in the period in which Turkish Cypriots are living, they have started to experience concerns about existence again.
Erhürman said, “Our success in pomegranate teaches us something that the pandemic has taught us again: The producer does not disappear.”
Erhürman, who said, “We will continue to exist by producing, to take root in these lands and to raise our future generations in these lands,” concluded his words by saying, “I am glad to have you, good to produce.”
It was reported that Güneşköy Muhtar Akay Darbaz, who made a speech at the fair, stated that “they will continue to struggle to give the pomegranate the necessary value in production”.
