At least twenty-seven (27) sacks of dried leaves concealed with garri reasonably suspected to be Indian Hemp along with 31 parcels of Exol 5 tablets including 30 parcels of Tramadol tablets have been recovered by the police in Katsina State.
In the recovery process, a 25-year-old suspected notorious Indian Hemp dealer, one Ukashatu Idris of Kiyaki village in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State was arrested by the police.
The Katsina police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, in a press briefing held at the Command’s Headquarters, Katsina noted that Idris was arrested on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022 at about 17:30hrs, based on credible intelligence.
He added that nemesis caught up with the suspect when he was accosted along Funtua – Gusau Road, in possession of twenty-seven (27) sacks loaded with dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp.
The police spokesman stated that, in the course of the investigation, the suspect also confessed to having been on his way from Auchi in Edo State to Zamfara State with the said exhibits.
The suspect further mentioned one Kabiru Master ‘M of Lalan area of Gusau town in Zamfara State, (now at large) as his accomplice as the investigation is ongoing.
“This is the third time I am engaging in this business. I was introduced to the business by one, Nasiru. I was formally selling pride and roasted chickens along with pride eggs in my community before finding this lucrative business after which I was finally arrested along Unguwar Dahiru in Funtua LGA of Katsina State.
“Each of these sacks could be sold for at least N60,000. We buy each sack at the cost of N30,000,” the suspect said.
In a related development, the State Police Command has arrested one, Aminu Abu Kasim, aged 28 years of Danmarke village in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State with assorted drugs.
The suspected notorious drug dealer was arrested with 31 packages of Exol 5 tablets and 30 packages of Tramadol tablets worth between 110-120 thousand naira.
The suspect was intercepted following a credible intelligence report received by the command, that a particular house in Danmarke village in Jibia LGA of the State has specialized in selling illicit drugs not only to the youths but also to criminal elements.
According to Gambo, some of these drugs are being smuggled into Dumburum Forest for the bandits and terrorists, adding that, there’s nexus between banditry, terrorism, and the use of drugs or Indian Hemp.
In the meantime, the command has based on credible intelligence raided the hideout of suspected notorious armed robbers that specialized in breaking people’s vehicles and houses to commit armed robbery.
In the course of the investigation on October 11th, 2022, the command succeeded in recovering five (5) suspected stolen motor vehicles in their possession.
As an investigation is ongoing, the command displayed the vehicles for anyone whose vehicle is stolen to be aware and come to the headquarters to claim ownership.
