UBP Secretary General Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu stated that they called on the opposition to act together on the two-state solution in Cyprus and said, “We will do our best for the recognition of the TRNC.”
General Secretary and Deputy of the National Unity Party (UBP) Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu made statements about the agenda by participating in the program called ’50+1′, which was broadcasted on BRT.
Regarding Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s speech at the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in front of the UN member states that the TRNC should be officially recognized, Hasipoğlu said that an extremely important step had been taken.
Hasipoğlu stated that Turkey made a sincere effort to recognize the TRNC and brought the issue to the UN General Assembly.
Stating that the Turkish Cypriot side has been trying for years to reach a solution on the Cyprus problem, Hasipoğlu said, “But the problem is the Greek Cypriot side. They don’t want to share the candidate,” he said.
Hasipoğlu stated that they have adopted the two-state solution model in Cyprus and that the President Ersin Tatar stated that was chosen accordingly.
Hasipoğlu stated that a solution model that would be under the auspices of the Greek Cypriot side, such as the federation, should be abandoned, and said, “We will do our best for the recognition of the TRNC.”
Hasipoğlu said that they called for the opposition to act together for a ‘two-state solution’ and said, “I think we will come a long way in a short time.”
Stating that Turkey is always with them, Hasipoğlu said, “From now on, the arrow has come out of the bow and there is no turning back. The Cyprus issue has gained a new dimension,” he said.
Hasipoğlu also commented on the news that there will be a direct flight from Russia to the TRNC on November 15.
Emphasizing that there is no clear situation for now and that he believes that there will be a development in these matters in the future. Hasipoğlu said, “There is no smoke without fire.”
Hasipoğlu also made a statement about the discussions on the municipal reform. Stating that they acted in consensus and that they took into account the suggestions of the opposition, Hasipoğlu said that the work continues.
Hasipoğlu stated that while the date of local elections was set as November 25th, the constitution was violated, but that the date of December 25th, which they determined in consensus with the opposition, was also against the constitution, and said, “There will be no problem as the new election date has been unanimously accepted in the parliament.” .
Hasipoğlu said that they chose the way of reconciliation during the realization of the municipalities reform and said, “If we had not chosen the way of reconciliation, the country would have been dragged into chaos”.
UBP Secretary General Hasipoğlu added that UBP’s mayoral candidates will be clarified within the next month.
