Zorlu Töre, President of the Assembly of the Republic, attended the Olympic Awards ceremony organized by the National Olympic Committee of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. In his speech at the ceremony, Töre said, “I hope that those who embargo and isolate us and our youth will one day be ashamed of this and give up.”

According to the statement made by the parliament, Töre, in his speech at the event held at the Nicosia Concorde Tower Hotel, said, “Many of our athletes achieve success under the Turkish National Team uniform. We would like to thank our motherland Turkey for the support given to our athletes.”
Saying that “the sports embargo is against the founding principles of the United Nations”, Töre reminded the rhetoric of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that “The world is bigger than five” and stated that “Turkish Cypriot people and young people should adopt this promise”.
Töre stated that he “believes that the embargoes and isolations will be broken very soon” and described the call made by the President of the Republic of Turkey at the United Nations General Assembly to “know the TRNC” as a “historical step”.
Töre said, “Today, it is out of question to give up the state and sovereignty just because there are many problems, especially embargoes,” and noted that they saluted the call for the recognition of the TRNC.
Töre said, “We continue with the Motherland. I hope those who embargo and isolate us and our young people will one day be ashamed of this and give up.”
Töre gave awards to the athletes after his speech.
