Suspect released on bail beats a policeman again, awaiting trial

Percy Chimezie Opara, who was arrested on drug charges in Kyrenia and released on bail a few days ago, beat a police officer this time and was arrested again. The suspect appeared in court yesterday.

Hüseyin Tosun, a police officer at Lapta Police Station, said that on 07.09.2022 at 00.10 hours in Alsancak, on Karaoğlanoğlu Street in Alsancak, the drunken suspect refused to give a breath sample, he was disturbed by casually waving his hands and arms, acting inappropriately and shouting meaninglessly.

He said that while he was doing it, he was caught red-handed and tried to be arrested by two police officers at the Lapta Police Station, showing resistance and striking the face and various parts of his body with his hands and feet. Police said the suspect was subsequently arrested using reasonable force.

Tosun stated that the suspect had been given collateral for drug offenses a short time ago, and that he had been given collateral for battering the police in Famagusta before, adding that he had committed similar crimes and that he could commit similar crimes if he was released.

Tosun demanded that the suspect be put on trial.

The court sent the suspect to prison for a period not exceeding one month.
