Suspect arrested for violation of privacy await trial

The suspect, who was found to have secretly taken photos of a woman in Nicosia and was reported to have many similar images on his phone, was sent to prison for 25 days to be held in pre-trial detention.

The suspect M.W (M-23), who was arrested on charges of “Violation of the Privacy of Private Life” in Nicosia, was brought before the court.

Police officer Birtan Başaran, who reported the incident at the court, stated that the 23-year-old suspect took photos of the woman across the street with his mobile phone while he was in a vehicle on Mehmet Akif Caddesi in Nicosia on September 22.

The police said that the suspect was arrested on September 23, pursuant to a pending warrant obtained from the Nicosia District Court, and in his oral statement, he stated that he had secretly taken photos and videos of many different women on his mobile phone.

Police officer Başaran stated that the matter was serious and demanded that the suspect be put on trial.

Evaluating the testimony given in his presence, Judge Nil Elodie Çeliker ordered the suspect to wait in prison for a period not exceeding 25 days in order to be present at his trial.
