Burak Duran, the suspect who came to the north of Cyprus as a tourist and was arrested on charges of theft was brought before the court.
Police officer Doğukan Can, who gave sworn testimony in court, reported the facts. The police stated that the suspect Burak Duran was involved in the crimes of “Opening a House at Night”.
On September 21, 2022, the suspect Burak Duran, who was in the TRNC as a tourist, at 00.30 midnight, pushed open the south-facing pines of the two residences at the address of Yenikent with both hands, with the intent to commit a crime.
Can explained that he entered the house and was noticed, and exited from the place he entered, and that the suspect was summoned to the Nicosia Judicial Branch on the same day that he was identified in Nicosia.
The police stated that immediately after the suspect was identified, a separate investigation was launched regarding the suspect’s connection to the serial crimes in the vehicle, where investigations were carried out by the police teams.
Can stated that the camera footage of both investigations initiated regarding the issue should be captured as evidence for examination, and the residents and/or witnesses who saw the suspect running away from the crime scene should be reached and statements should be obtained.
The police demanded that the investigation of the matter is continuing, and that if the suspect is released at this stage, it will adversely affect investigation, so that he remains in police custody for 7 days.
Evaluating the testimony given in his presence, Judge Nil Elodie Çeliker ordered the suspect to be detained for 7 days.
