Revolutionary Workers’ Unions Federation (DEV-İŞ) President Koral Aşam stated that the municipal workers who wanted to come to the Assembly to protest the “Special Law on the Unification of Municipalities” were arrested and said, “They are trying to prevent the resistance by using the police, we will continue our resistance.”
Revolutionary Workers’ Unions Federation (DEV-İŞ), Municipal Workers’ Union (BES) and Famagusta Türk Genel-İŞ continue their general warning strike and protest in front of the Assembly of the Republic today, demanding that the Municipalities (Amendment) Bill be withdrawn to the committee and discussed again.
According to Kibris Postasi, Koral Aşam, President of the Revolutionary Workers’ Unions Federation (DEV-İŞ), made statements about the Municipalities Reform.
DEV-İŞ President Koral Aşam stated that the Municipalities Reform has chaotic articles and that the articles are unconstitutional.
“The important thing is that municipalities need to be strengthened, not unified,” Aşam said.
Noting that the two indebted municipalities were merged, Aşam stated that they asked the committee a question about how these debts would be paid off.
Mentioning that major problems will arise only in number-based mergers, Aşam said that his views on the reform only include the ‘protection of collective bargaining agreements’ clause, which alone does not work.
Aşam said, “As of today, collective agreements are valid, some municipalities have salary problems.
Although collective agreements are valid, they lose their validity because they cannot implement these agreements if they are not economically and administratively viable.
AŞAM CALLS THE GOVERNMENT TO ‘COMPLETE THE WAY OF MIND’
Pointing out that the citizens who have the right to serve in the towns will be deprived of their right to serve, Aşam made a call to the government to “come to the path of reason”.
Asking the government to come to the Ad-Hoc Committee, Aşam said, “What happened from night to morning, did you change both the committee and your attitude?” she asked.
“MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES ARE HOLD AT THE HEADQUARTERS”
Mentioning the difficulties faced by the workers while trying to reach the action area since morning, Aşam said, “Those who try to reach here are kept in police stations.
They are trying to prevent the resistance by using the police, we will continue the resistance,” he said.
