Our new policy is based on sovereign equality – Ersin Tatar

President Tatar emphasized that the new policy is a necessary policy and that the struggle on the island is a struggle for sovereignty; “Our new policy is based on sovereign equality,” he said.

President Ersin Tatar answered the questions of BRT reporters in a special broadcast held at the Presidential campus and made evaluations about the new policy of the TRNC.

“I DON’T THINK I WILL HAVE AN MEETING WITH ANASTASIADIS”

According to the statement made by the Presidency, President Tatar said that he did not think that he would attend the UN General Assembly to be held in September, but that he would be able to meet with the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades there.

Traditionally, we go to the UN every September, and we will be in New York, the heart of international relations, but I don’t think I will have a meeting with Anastasiadis.”

“OUR NEW POLITICS IS BASED ON SOVEREIGN EQUALITY”

President Tatar emphasized that the new policy is a necessary policy and that the struggle on the island is a struggle for sovereignty; “Our new policy is based on sovereign equality,” he said.

Tatar noted that the new policy was not an easy step, but that it was carried on in a healthy way with the support of the Motherland Turkey; “Every institution and organization of the Republic of Turkey has adopted this new policy.

The Federation is no longer talked about, nor is it accepted. We accomplished a lot in two years. First of all, we were able to make a policy change and we will continue with this new policy.”

“ILHAM ALIYEV HAS INITIATIVES TO DEVELOP CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC CONTACTS BETWEEN AZERBAIJAN AND TRNC”

President Tatar also stated that the opposing side’s idea of zero soldiers, zero guarantees is a situation that will make Turkey’s existence on the island questionable and that this cannot be accepted.

Referring to the contacts he made in Konya, President Tatar stated that he had the opportunity to convey the new politics to many foreign ambassadors, and that he received great support from the Azerbaijani people in his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and he worked for the TRNC to enter the Organization of Turkish States as an observer member state.

Reminding that Azerbaijani businesswomen visited the country, President Tatar stated that Ilham Aliyev had initiatives for the development of cultural and economic contacts between Azerbaijan and the TRNC. President Tatar; “If it was left to Azerbaijan, direct flights would start between the two countries, but the Greek Cypriots try to prevent it at this point as well. Azerbaijan and its airlines are also in a difficult situation.

Our politics is a sacred policy. Our way is clear. It is my greatest wish that this policy will be successful. The Republic of Turkey supports our new policy. We will not throw a man back from this policy. The opposition can say what it wants to say. Greece and Greeks believe that Cyprus is a Hellenic island. I can see it. They aim to dominate the North,” he said.

Talking about the search for hydrocarbons in the Eastern Mediterranean, President Tatar stated that the searches in the Blue Homeland should be managed by joint committees to be formed between the two peoples with the cooperation between the two states, and said that the Greek Cypriots do not approach working together on hydrocarbons.

“EVEN WHEN WE KNOW OR NOT, WE ARE A SEPARATE STATE”

President Tatar; “We have various agreements with the Republic of Turkey since 2011. We act together with the Republic of Turkey. There is a conflict in plot 6. Both the Republic of Turkey and the Greek Cypriot side have rights in that region. We have the right to the same place.

If we do not think about all these processes and do not try to protect our rights, the whole Blue Homeland will be gone. There are great riches in the region, and work will continue at this point. At the same time, there is a Turkey-Israel rapprochement, and we are in this whole equation. “Whether we are known or not, we are a separate state,” he said.

“WE SHOULD CONTINUE TO TELL OUR RIGHTS.

Emphasizing that the new policy is the right one for the protection of national interests in the region, President Tatar said, “We must continue to explain our righteousness. This is a powerful policy. This policy is a national politics,” he said.

Stating that the Greeks are dealing with embargoes, President Tatar stated that it is not possible to understand their mentality; “Our athletes participating in international tournaments show success.

We are fighting together to lift the embargoes. We are working with the Republic of Turkey to produce some formulas. “In international organizations, they look at whether we are a member of the UN, and this creates a problem for us,” he said.

Stating that the work on foreign opening continues in the Presidential Sports Committee, President Tatar stated that everyone knows that these embargoes are not true.

“ENGLAND IS AWARE OF THE INJURIES DUE TO US”

Pointing out that the UK is one of the countries that know the Cyprus issue best, President Tatar noted that they are in constant contact with the UK in this context. President Tatar; “In England, I cannot say ‘our new policy is fully supported’, but they are also aware of the injustice done to us.

They say, ‘You may be right, but the Greek Cypriot side must also give approval so that there can be a treaty’, adding that in order for a policy on the basis of two states to be successful, attempts should not be made to comply with the policy of the Greek Cypriot administration.
