Burak Maviş, Secretary General of the Turkish Cypriot Teachers’ Union (KTÖS), criticized the Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu and said, “The unilateral amendment of the Teachers’ Law is incompatible with democracy, education principles or political practices.”
Maviş also posed some questions to the Üstel government.
Maviş’s statement is as follows:
“The fact that the Minister of Education deviates from scientific means and wants to unilaterally change the Teachers’ Law with a despotic approach is not compatible with democracy, education principles or political practices.
The anti-democratic attitude of the Minister of Education has caused a great reaction among our teachers. In the scorching heat of summer, in the police blockade, in the face of proposed amendments to the law that there are no unions and do not approve, the Minister’s attempt to discredit the teacher’s labor by saying “I am trying to employ teachers who work less” without putting forward any scientific evidence is proof that the Minister’s support is not the quality of education.
The fact that the Minister of Education says that “after the amendments made to the law, there will be around 150 teacher savings” reveals that the changes to be made are not related to education.
In whose possession are the millions transferred to the rented areas?
While there is no explanation for saving on education with a simple math calculation, who is in the savings of the millions transferred to other areas of rent?
What kind of a saving is it that the Electricity Authority incurs a loss of TL 223 million ($12 million) due to the purchase of fuel without a tender by the decisions of the Council of Ministers?
The annual payment to the consultants is 45 million TL. Is this system, in which appointments by Tripartite Decree are still ongoing, a party savings?
With the 96 million TL paid annually to overseas offices, who has been given personal savings?
Who has the 750 million TL given from the Development Bank but not repaid?
In whose possession is the complex?
“The tender for the unauthorized, illegal complex was announced in Ankara with 2 billion 497 million TL. When the need for schools, hospitals, roads and social spaces is obvious, whose savings are in this complex?
Who is the responsibility of the continuation of the AKP’s backyard created in the north of the island by persistently keeping the Turkish Cypriots out of the European Union acquis?
We underline and emphasize that there is no explanation for those who say that there is no saving from reputation to want to save on education and health!
The resignation of those who advise the citizens to save money and distribute rent through the back door is a virtue.
