How three Turkish-Cypriots were abducted in exchange of prisoners

According to Yeniduzen, it was told that three Turkish Cypriots whose remains were found in a well during the excavation initiated by the Disappearances Committee in Trulli were abducted during 1963-64 to be used in a prisoner exchange.

A Greek Cypriot reader who called us regarding the issue said that he wanted to share the following information:

  • As far as I know, the three “missing” Turkish Cypriots whose remains were found in a well in Trulli were abducted from Larnaca to be used in a prisoner exchange.
  • Before these Turkish Cypriots were abducted, some Greek Cypriots were captured in the area of Paphos Gate in Nicosia and held on the Turkish side of Nicosia.
  • The three Turkish Cypriots who were abducted from Larnaca in order to exchange with these Greek Cypriots were kept alive for a while as far as I know, then whatever happened, this exchange did not happen and the three Turkish Cypriots were killed and thrown into the well in Trulli.
  • Various rumors available in Trulli, maybe they are rumors to push this event back and make them forget, I don’t know that much. What I know for sure is that 3 Turkish Cypriots were kidnapped and killed in Trulli.
  • As far as I know, a Greek Cypriot witness showed the area where the said well is located years ago to the officials of the Committee of Disappearances.
  • What happened to one of the Greek Cypriots who took part in the abduction of three Turkish Cypriots in 1963-64 is also interesting. A close relative of the Greek Cypriot in question was similarly abducted in 1974, this time by some Turkish Cypriots, and “disappeared”.

We would like to thank this Greek Cypriot reader for the information he shared with us. Despite various narratives, the most definitive information regarding the identity of the three Turkish Cypriots whose remains were found in the well in Trulli will only be revealed after the DNA tests to be made by the Disappearances Committee.

TRULLI EXCAVATION WILL CONTINUE ON MONDAY.

We also learned that the Trulli excavation will continue on Monday. Archaeologist Gülseren Baranhan, the Excavations Coordinator of the Cypriot Turkish Member Office of the Council of the Missing, gave the following information upon one of our questions:

“Trulli excavation will not continue over the weekend, all the excavated soil was checked on Friday, excavation will continue by opening a ramp to the well on Monday.”
