13 Refugees Detained For Violating Military Zone

13 refugees caught trying to cross from the south of Cyprus to the north were brought before the court.

Police officer Mahir Türe, who gave sworn testimony in court, said that 13 Syrian refugees were found to have illegally entered the northern part of Cyprus in August, violating the first degree military forbidden zone, and were arrested.

Considering that the investigation initiated regarding the issue was completed and 13 people entered the country illegally, the police demanded that they be held in pre-trial detention in order to be ready for their case, since they do not have a residence permit and do not have an address.

Evaluating the testimony given in his presence, Judge Hazal Hacımulla ordered 13 refugees without legal status to be held in prison for a period not exceeding one month.
