Suspected Car Snatcher Beaten To Death In Katsina

Police in Katsina State have confirmed the death of a car snatcher, who is a member of a notorious syndicate of armed robbers and car snatchers. 

He was said to have robbed a motor vehicle at gunpoint.
Upon getting the information, some angry residents of Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina State killed the suspect while taking the vehicle outside the state.
While searching the scene, the police recovered one Makarov pistol with five rounds of 0.8mm ammunition along with the stolen Honda motor vehicle known as Discussion Continues, dark blue in colour with registration number CRC 135 KA, valued at two million, six hundred thousand naira (N2,600,000:00K).
The Police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the command headquarters, Katsina on Saturday.
He narrated that the incident occurred at about 1200hrs after a distress call was received that armed robbers numbering about five (5) in a motor vehicle, attacked one Alhaji Usman Abdulmumini, ‘M, aged 52yrs of Charanchi LGA while supervising work at his farm, at Kirkini village in Kankia LGA of the State.

“On receipt of the report, DPO Charanchi led a team and blocked the Katsina Kano highway at Charanchi town,” he said.

“Consequently, the team successfully intercepted the stolen motor vehicle driven by one of the robbers, who tried to beat the police checkpoint and reversed but was subsequently intercepted by some community members and beaten to death.
“In the course of searching the motor vehicle, one Makarov Pistol with five (5) rounds of 0.8mm ammunition was recovered by the police in his possession.”
As the investigation is ongoing, the command said it was making efforts with a view to arresting other members of the syndicate that escaped in the other vehicle.
