Man Convicted for Theft of N2.6m

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday, October 29, 2021 secured the conviction of one Solomon Okonkwo before Justice Maryam Sabo of the Kano State High Court for offences bordering on breach of trust and misappropriation of N2,650, 000 (Two Million Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira).

The allegedly obtained the sum from the complainant for the supply of Shortwave Diathermy Machine but fraudulently diverted the money to his personal use.
Upon arraignment, the convict pleaded not guilty to the charge.
During the trial, counsel for the prosecution Sadiq Husseini called two witnesses and tendered several documents.
Justice Sabo, in his judgment held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. Consequently, he convicted and sentenced the defendant to one year imprisonment with option of N50, 000 fine.
He was also ordered to restitute the complainant the sum of N2, 800,000 (Two Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira Only).
In the event he fails to restitute the victim, the defendant shall serve additional one-year prison term.
