Permanent Secretary admonish staff to embrace self development


The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Bashir Nura Alkali has admonished the staff of the Ministry to embrace self development.

He said this during the commemoration of  the Civil Service Week 2021 with the  theme,” Deploying Technology to Sustain and Enhance Service Delivery in the Face of the Challenging COVID-19 Pandemic Climate” in Abuja.

Speaking at the event the Permanent Secretary Bashir Nura Alkali represented by Alhaji Ali Grema said that  year 2021 edition is, therefore, unique as each Ministry was mandated to mark it in their respective Ministries. 

According to him, “its worthy of note that the topic for this year’s celebration “captures the mood of the moment.  It is a clarion-call to deploy technology and other online media platforms to provide efficient and effective service delivery to the citizenry for the sustenance of Government policies and programmes that will ensure the welfare and security of Nigerians as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

“This year’s edition is designed specifically to celebrate workers who continuously render selfless service despite ravaging COVID-19 Pandemic”.

He said that the Civil Service Week celebration has been marked annually in Nigeria since 1999, with the aim of enhancing professionalism in the Public Service; Raising the image of the Public Service; Discovering innovations; motivating Public Servants to further promote innovations; rendering excellence in the Public Sector; Enhancing trust in Government; and Sharing best practices within and across the African continent.

He outlined some of the achievement made in the Ministry and proffered solutions to those challenges encountered in the course of undertaking duties. 

Alkali  made commitment towards the welfare of staff within the limited resources  available. 

The representative of the Head of Civil Service Dr. Folashade Esan represented by the Director of Civil Service Transformation Mr. B.J Sule

lauded the staff of the Ministry for the good work done in carrying out Humanitarian services  throughout the country and prayed for protection for the staff as they go about their assignments.

In his lecture,”Federal Civil Service Strategy Implementation Programme” How far, so far?, he reiterated the need to always  monitor  information on the website of the Ministry in order to be abreast with innovations in the Civil Service and embrace digital technology.

Director  of Human Resources, Babatunde Jaji in his closing remarks thanked all present and expressed  commitment to  better celebration of the event next  year.
