Governor Emmanuel gives panel two weeks to investigate expelled AKSU student


Governor Udom Emmanuel has approved the constitution of a five member Special Executive Council Panel to investigate the recent developments leading to the expulsion of a student from the Akwa Ibom State University, AKSU with a mandate to submit its report within two weeks.

A statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem indicates that the five member panel is headed by the  Honourable Commissioner in the Ministry of Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet. 

Other members of the Panel include; Mr. Uko Udom,SAN,  Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Member, Pastor Sunny Ibuot – Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Member, Mr. Akan Okon  –  Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Member and Dr Imoh Moffat-  Commissioner for Science and Technology who serves as Secretary.

The Committee which has been directed to start work immediately, is mandated to review and ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the expulsion of the said student,  Mr. Iniobong Isang Ekpo by the management of the University and to make appropriate recommendations to His Excellency the Governor.

The panel is also expected to ascertain if the expelled student was given the right to fair hearing before his expulsion.

It would be recalled that the media space had recently been awash with news of the expulsion of Iniobong Ekpo by authorities of the state owned University. 

Governor  Emmanuel being a visitor to the institution in his wisdom directed that a thorough investigation be carried out by a special Panel of the State Exco with a view to ascertain the root of the matter.
