Details have emerged on why nine lawmakers and five Commissioners in the cabinet of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu refused to defect alongside the Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi, to the opposition People’s Democratic Party.
Hon Ajayi had said that bigwigs in the APC would soon leave the party for the PDP.
On Monday when National Working Committee led by Prince Uche Secondus visited the state to receive defectors, the expected nine lawmakers and Commissioners stayed away from event.
Some sources claimed Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu played a fast one of his Deputy by pressing on the lawmakers and Commissioners not to defect.
The sources alleged that the governor doled out millions of naira to woo back perceived loyalists of Hon Ajayi.
Another source said the lawmakers and Commissioners were still monitoring situation to avoid making political missteps.
The source said those loyal to Hon Ajayi would ditch the APC immediately he (Ajayi) emerged the flagbearer of the PDP.
This move, according to the source, is to ensure the APC does not recover before the main election.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Akeredolu, Media and Publicity, Ojo Oyewamide, said the state government was taken aback by what he termed spurious allegation.
