NAF congratulates Air Warriors for emerging champions of Zenith Bank women basketball league

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has congratulated the Air Warriors Basketball Team of Abuja for emerging champions of the 2019 Zenith Bank Women Basketball League after defeating MFM Queens of Lagos on Thursday, 24 October 2019, in Lagos by 57 – 53 points.

The superlative performance of the youthful Air Warriors is a reflection of the high premium the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, places on sports and youth empowerment.

The performance is also a testament to what can be achieved when youths are properly engaged in productive activities, such as sports, which have the potentials to reduce crime and criminality in the Country.

While congratulating the Team for making the NAF proud, the CAS charged them not to rest on their oars but strive for more laurels in future competitions.

In the last 4 years of the current NAF Administration, sporting activities have been accorded necessary prominence resulting in laudable achievements by NAF Teams in various sport events.

Additionally, as part of efforts of the Service to create employment opportunities and curb social vices, youth restiveness and crime in the barracks, the NAF established the Barracks Youth Empowerment Through Agriculture (BYETA) programme in 2016.

The programme has continued to empower youths in NAF Bases with Agro-entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to make them productive and self-reliant.
