The Nigeria Police Force has warned criminals to repent and be good citizens with legitimate business.
The police also stated that some of the criminals in Nigeria were rich people who sponsored lies against its establishment.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police and Commander, Intelligence Response Team of NPF, Abba Kyari, issued the warning in an interview with newsmen in Abuja during the presentation of Internet infrastructure by the management of Buypower.ng led by Benjamin Ufaruna and Oladipo Asehinde, as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
Kyari said, “My advice is that the criminals should repent, become good citizens, do legitimate business and earn their living. They should know that there is no way they can be committing crime and go free; we will not relent, we will get them and we will not forget.
“We know that these criminals are also not happy with us and what we have been doing. Some of them have been sponsoring lies against us. But it is normal; whenever you are fighting crime, they will fight back. These criminals have money and what it takes; they are even richer than us. They use money to sponsor the publication of lies without even crosschecking whether it is true or not.
“This is our country; we don’t have any other country other than Nigeria. So when somebody brings lies against somebody, you investigate it to know whether it is the truth or not before you publish it; that is what we are recommending for our friends in the media.”
Ufaruna said, “The police department has tremendously worked hard to keep Nigerians safe and secure from the terrors of the underworld. We wake up every morning and are able to go about our business because of the sacrifices they make on our behalf. They lose their sleep so we can gain ours.
“Nigeria gets less dangerous one day at a time because of the progress they make on the job. Posterity will not judge us right if we don’t look for ways and means to impact on exceptional teams such as this.”
