Ninth House of Rep: APC new members back Gbajabiamila as Speaker

Femi Gbajabiamila

The North-West Coordinator of the All Progressives Congress’ New Members in the House of Representatives, Ibrahim Aliyu, on Sunday said the new members have endorsed Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the Ninth House of Representatives.

Aliyu, who is the lawmaker-elect representing Rabah/Wurno Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, said this at a press conference in Sokoto.

He said the forum’s decision was meant to uphold party supremacy since the APC leadership had earlier named Gbajabiamila as its choice for the position.

He said, “We support the party’s decision. We have endorsed the choice of Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the Ninth Assembly.

“We are also restating our unalloyed loyalty and commitment to our great party.

“This, we do, to ensure that the laudable policies and programmes of President Muhammadu Buhari sail through, in the general interest of Nigerians.”

Aliyu said the forum would take advantage of its numerical strength of about 164 members to give Gbajabiamila’s ambition a boost.

“We have about 164 members. This figure is apart from the 67 APC returning members. This gives us a comfortable majority.

“The forum aims to prevent the ugly development of the Eighth National Assembly, which virtually affected the noble objectives and policies of the APC and the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration,” he added.
