Magu Calls For Inter-Agency Collaboration Against Cyber Crime, Ponzi Schemes

 Ibrahim Magu

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on Thursday April 11, 2019 stressed that for a meaningful and sustained fight to tackle and end the menace of cyber crime and ponzi schemes in the country, the need for inter-agency collaboration cannot be overemphasized.

Magu’s position was contained in a short remark given on his behalf by the Zonal Head of the Commission in the South East, Usman Imam at an event organised by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, at the on-going Enugu International Trade Fair.

“The Commission is quite concerned as pointed out in the speech by the MD/CEO of NDIC about the increasing rate of cyber crime and the proliferation of ponzi schemes in the country and this is where our collaboration with NDIC needs to be constantly maintained.

“In fact there are a lot of cases going on regarding ponzi cases one which is that of Ksley Mega vision whose operator, Kingsley Ubenyi was just arrested yesterday for jumping bail granted him by the court. This was a scheme which duped people of their hard earned monies running into hundreds of millions of Naira.”

He assured the general public of EFCC’s commitment in making sure that no Nigerian is defrauded and that in the event that such occurs, the Commission was ready to bring perpetrators to justice.
Earlier in his speech which was read by the Zonal Controller, Vera Ogbo-Ikwue, the MD/CEO of NDIC, Umaru Ibrahim, gave a cursory outlook of achievements by the Corporation.

He said his organisation was committed to the sustenance of sound, safe and stable financial system which is the essential pillar for sustainable economic growth.
The event was attended by other corporate organisations both in private and public sectors, the mass media and the general public.
