Raja Casablanca beat Esperance to lift CAF Super Cup

Raja Casablanca players celebrate winning the final with the trophy

Raja Casablanca defender Badr Banoun scored a second-half winner as the Moroccan side beat Tunisia’s more fancied Esperance 2-1 to claim the CAF Super Cup played in Al Rayyan, Qatar on Friday.

African Confederation Cup holders Raja led through Abdelilah Hafidi on 22 minutes, but African Champions League winners Esperance levelled just before the hour-mark with a goal from Algeria international Youcef Belaili.

Raja skipper Banoun netted the decisive goal though with a neat flick past goalkeeper Rami Jridi to claim a second Super Cup for the Moroccan side, who are coached by Frenchman Patrice Carteron.

The Super Cup has been played between the African Champions League holders and the Confederation Cup winners since 1993, and was held outside of the African continent for the first time this year.
