Don’t vote PDP, Buhari tells Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari had a piece of advice for Nigerians yesterday – they should reject the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the forthcoming general elections.

He told a crowd of supporters at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, that the opposition party had nothing good to offer.

It was at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally. Buhari, who is the APC standard bearer, reeled out the milestones recorded by his administration, since coming to power in 2015.

He said that the APC administration under him had delivered on the Abuja rail project and others across the country and improved on power supply, a feat he said the PDP could not achieve in its 16 years at the helm, despite expanding $16 billion of public funds on electricity.

The President, who expressed appreciation to the people for their love for the APC and him, said that the party will deliver even more in the next four years if re-elected.

He said: “Where were we in 2015 when we came in? But, look at what we have done so far, within the little resources available.

“Don’t make the mistake to vote any PDP candidate; all they want to do is to cover their track for the atrocities they committed. They claimed that they spent $16 million on power, but there is nothing to show for it. Look at what we have done, and what they destroyed.”

Amidst shouts of ”Sai Baba, Sai Buhari” from the enthusiastic crowd, the President promised that work would begin  soon on the Ajaokuta Steel Company.

He praised the people of the state for standing by the party and called on them to vote APC candidates at both federal and state levels, adding that they will not be disappointed if they did.

According to him, the APC, in its less than four years in office, has recorded several milestones, including reining in insurgency in parts of the North, and in the fight against corruption.

Other APC stalwarts that addressed the crowd included: APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole; APC Presidential Campaign Council Director-General Rotimi Amaechi; governors Yahaya Bello (Kogi) and Simon Lalong (Plateau); Campaign Council members and members of the Kogi State working committees.

Amaechi said: “The elections are between the “looters” and the “looted”.  The PDP are the looters and Nigerians are the looted.

“PDP is broke now, and their plan is to come back and loot. If you don’t reject them, they will come to loot for the next four years. PDP can only beat us in corruption.”

To Bello, the battle (election) is between liars and the upright.

He assured President Buhari of victory at the poll, saying, “Kogi State believes in you; Kogi State believes in your leadership. I assure you that you will win in every polling unit and in every ward during the election.

“Kogi State is for APC…the crowd you see here at the stadium and all around is a result of less than 24hours mobilisation.”

Oshiomhole, who was highly impressed by the massive turnout of supporters, praised Bello for his ability and resourcefulness. He called on the people to reject the PDP and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, saying neither the party nor its presidential candidate, has anything good to offer Nigerians.

“It is wrong for some people to think that it is their birthright to superintend over the largest economy in Africa, to the detriment of the people,” Bello said.
