Spurs survive Wolves fightback to go fourth

Tottenham Hotspur survived a stirring Wolverhampton Wanderers fightback to go level on points with third-placed Chelsea in the Premier League following a five-goal thriller at Molineux.

Having lost their last top-flight game against Manchester City at Wembley, Spurs established a 3-0 lead in the Black Country before Wolves hit back.

Argentine midfielder Erik Lamela fired through the legs of keeper Rui Patricio to give Mauricio Pochettino’s side the lead before Brazilian Lucas Moura headed the second from Kieran Trippier’s delicious cross.

Harry Kane netted his first league goal for five weeks before 20-year-old Spurs defender Juan Foyth conceded two penalties on his Premier League debut – Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez scoring from the spot.

At 2-0, Jimenez had an effort disallowed for offside – television replays showing the officials had got it wrong and that the goal should have stood.

While Spurs climb above north London rivals Arsenal into fourth spot, Wolves drop to 11th after a third straight defeat.
