Lagos APC Leaders back Ashafa for senator

The Lagos East Movement on Tuesday reached out to top All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders of Kosofe Local Government Area, urging them to base their choice of the next senator on the core attributes of competence, integrity and courage.

“Our representative must have strong vision, ability to articulate the vision and willingness to make changes. The person must be compassionate, be in touch with the people and be able to galvanize
them into action. Gbenga Ashafa is a role model and the most capable person to represent the senatorial district in 2019.”

At a meeting in Magodo with prominent politicians from Kosofe to discuss the political future of the senatorial district, special status for Lagos, state police, restructuring and devolution of powers, the leaders advised the good people of Lagos East not to be carried away by the alleged endorsement of a bench warmer in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“Politics is about people. The more experience you have dealing with different kinds of people, in different kinds of setting, at different levels, hopefully, you will be better able to represent them. Senator Gbenga Ashafa has made impact on the people. He has the requisite appeal and political structure to clinch the senatorial ticket of the ruling party.”

In a communiqué, the leaders urged the good people of Kosofe to reject a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly who had been in office for 15 years without attracting dividends of democracy to the constituency.

“We don’t want someone who cannot contribute to the debate in the senate.”

Reviewing Ashafa’s activities in the Senate, the leaders said the representative of Lagos East performed excellently.

“We have been following the activities of Ashafa. He is doing very well in the senate. He has capacity to drive the senatorial district in the direction that we want it.”

The communiqué signed by the Chairman, Lagos East Movement (LEM), Alhaji Tajudeen Abdul Rasak commended Ashafa for his strong representation at the senate.

“In 2013, Senator Gbenga Ashafa raised a motion on the floor of the Senate calling on the Federal Government not to risk the lives of Lagosians that use the nation’s longest bridge, the Third Mainland Bridge. Following the Third Mainland Bridge rehabilitation motion, the Federal Government committed itself to necessary periodic repairs to ensure that the bridge is safe and strong to carry the weight of thousands of vehicles that ply the bridge daily.”

Specifically, they praised the Lagos East representative for defending the interest of Lagos, condemning the rising cases of jungle justice in the country, empowering the people, initiating life changing development projects and ensuring periodic repairs of the Third Mainland Bridge.

“Senator Gbenga Ashafa is also working with Senator representing Lagos Central, Oluremi Tinubu and others for consideration and passage of the bill seeking to make provision for Federal Grants to Lagos State in recognition of its strategic socio-economic significance.”

Senator Gbenga Ashafa has a humble disposition, simplicity and humane disposition towards the people. His pedigree is huge. He is living up to the expectation of Lagos East people. “

Over 1,000 APC members from Kosofe stormed the venue in representative capacity.
