Correctional officers called the police to assist them with an inmate who was trying to kill herself, according to police in Montana.

Great Falls police said that they have arrested 25-year-old Samantha Nicole Wise after being accused of smuggling a weapon into prison.

Wise was charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.

According to the criminal complaint, Wise shoplifted items from a Shopko store. Employees called the police who arrived at the scene and attempted to detain Wise.

However, she broke into a car and fled the scene.

While speeding away from the store’s parking lot, Wise nearly ran over two police officers.

Wise was later found hiding under a pile of clothes in someone’s home. She was arrested and booked into the Cascade County Detention Center.

She was charged with theft and assaulting a police officer. Her bail was set at $75,000.

On Tuesday, correctional officers noticed Wise holding a knife in her prison cell.

When questioned, Wise said that she wanted to kill herself.

Prison officials called the Great Falls police to assist them in defusing the situation.

After several hours, Wise gave up the knife.

Wise later confessed that she smuggled the knife into prison by hiding it in her behind.

She hid the knife in a towel during a prison strip search.
