A mother dumped her baby outside a restaurant surrounded by drunk people because she wanted to have fun and play around, according to police in Japan.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department said that they have arrested the 43-year-old mother, who was not identified, for abandoning her 1-year-old son.
The woman was charged with one count of abandoning a child.
According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Friday, at around 11:00 p.m. The woman arrived in the entertainment district along with her baby.
She left her baby outside a restaurant while drinking alcoholic beverages in nearby bars.
At around 11:30 p.m., passersby found the baby crying in the street and they called the police. It was just 35 degrees at the time and the child was freezing.
Police began searching for the boy’s mother and she was found nearby. Police noticed that the woman was drunk.
She had bloodshot eyes and was slurring her speech.
The mother told police that she does not need her child because she would rather have fun and be free to play around.
