Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen is in the best form of his career and the Dane’s exploits can help the Premier League club reach new heights, midfielder Eric Dier said ahead of Saturday’s north London derby against Arsenal.
Eriksen has been an influential asset to Tottenham’s steady improvement in recent years and has started the current campaign in impressive style, scoring four goals and notching as many assists in 15 appearances.
He also earned widespread praise for taking his superb run of form to the international stage, scoring a hat-trick in Tuesday’s 5-1 win over Ireland to propel his country to the 2018 World Cup finals.
“It’s great for Tottenham that Eriksen’s continuing to excel,” Dier was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “We’re seeing the best Christian Eriksen we’ve ever seen at the moment. Hopefully he can keep going.”
When asked about Saturday’s game, Dier said: “The mentality going into it is to win. Simple really.”
England trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks withdrew from this month’s two international friendlies to recover from injuries and defender Ben Davies is hoping they will return to action ready to help Tottenham win at the Emirates.
“The boys have had a few niggles here and there,” Davies told British media. “Sometimes these friendlies can be one game too much with the programme coming up.
“If it means they are fresh for us on the weekend then we can be happy for that.”
The 24-year-old also urged third-placed Tottenham to work on cutting down the eight-point gap to league leaders Manchester City.
“City are a top side and have set the benchmark this year,” Davies added. “Now we have to be on top and clinical in every game. We have to try and keep picking up the points to catch them.”
Arsenal are four points behind their local rivals in sixth position and have not beaten Tottenham in the last six league meetings between the two sides.
