Mexico quake kills at least 42 in Morelos state, five in Mexico state

Damages are seen after an earthquake hit in Mexico City

At least 42 people were killed in Morelos state after a powerful earthquake struck central Mexico on Tuesday, Governor Graco Ramizez said, bring the toll from the disaster to 49.

State of Mexico Governor Alfredo Del Mazo said the death toll in his state had risen to at least 5 people, from initial reports of two deaths. Two more deaths were reported in the state of Puebla.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said 27 buildings had collapsed in the capital, Mexico City.
