Flood Alert: NEMA advises Kogi communities

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has advised Communities living around the flood plains in Kogi to immediately relocate to higher grounds for safety to avoid the eminent flood.

Mr Sani Datti, Head of Media and Publication, gave the advice in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

According to Datti, NEMA received a distress call of eminent flood in Sarkin Noma and Ganaja in Lokoja Local Government Area (LGA) and also Igala mela LGA of Kogi, among others.

He said that following the alert, the agency has immediately established contact with the State Commissioner for Environment and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant stakeholders.

He said that a team from the agency are due to arrive the state for appropriate action on persons and communities likely to be affected.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said Lokoja/Abuja road by NATACO was flooded on Thursday and called for caution and understanding on the part of motorists to ease traffic congestion.
