A young mother who wanted to go on vacation without her children, left her babies home alone, according to police in Colorado.

The Fountain Police Department said that on Wednesday, officer’s responded to a home in the 100 block of Wellington Street, to investigate a report of child abuse.

Officers found that the two small children had been locked in a bedroom by their mother while she was away on a trip.

The mother had arranged for an unidentified friend to check on the children once a day, and to feed them and change their diapers.

The mother told the friend that she had a neighbor providing childcare throughout the day and night while she was out of town.

It was then learned that there was no neighbor caring for the children and upon seeing their malnourished condition, the unidentified friend contacted the authorities.

The following Tuesday, an arrest warrant was issued for the children’s mother who was identified as 25-year-old Kanesha Godin.

Godin subsequently turned herself in to the Fountain Police Department, and is being held on two counts of felony child abuse.
