Royal Rumble results: John Cena beats AJ Styles to equal Ric Flair’s record 16 WWE world championship wins

JOHN CENA finally equalled Ric Flair’s record of 16 world championship wins after delivering FOUR AA’s to AJ Styles.

In what was arguably the best match of the night, the two Smackdown Live superstars delivered a masterclass in wrestling.

And it took Cena a quadruple of his big finisher – including one from the TOP ROPE – to write his name into WWE history.

Cena got the match underway with a huge elbow before the usual back-and-forth between the two juggernauts of the industry began.

Former TNA star Styles found himself on the backfoot as he went for the Styles Clash but Cena countered to throw his opponent high into the air and hard onto the matt.

Styles went for the Phenomenal Forearm but Cena ducked and hit the champ with an AA but could only get a two-count.

The Phenomenal One then hit the springboard move but Cena kicked out.

With Styles in control, Cena regained some moment with a Facebuster before going for another AA.

But Styles showed his skills as he rolled Cena into the Calf Crusher but the Face that Runs the Place countered himself into the STF.

Again Styles reversed into his submission but Cena then locked in the Figure Four – as made famous by WWE legend Flair.

But Indie dalring Styles pulled him into a Armbar but Cena showed unbelievable strength to lift and Powerbomb the champ.

Cena then went to the top rope for a dropkick but Styles hit a powerbomb of his own, connected with the Styles clash but again could only get a near-fall.

Styles then thought he had the win with a modified backbreaker onto his knee but again Cena survived.

Cena then hit the AA from the top rope but was left sat in the middle of the ring shocked after Styles got a shoulder up.

It then took TWO more AA’s for John Cena to finally equal the Nature Boys record.
