Husband fatally shoots wife who came home early from work after mistaking her for burglar

A husband is devastated after he accidentally shot his wife who came home early from work to surprise him, according to police in North Carolina.

Goldsboro police said that they are investigation 49-year-old Billy Williams, after fatally shooting his wife, 48-year-old Gina Williams.

According to the police investigation, Gina left her home for work around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, for an overnight shift. Her husband expected her back home around 8:00 a.m. on Friday.

In middle of the night, one of the couple’s two children inside the house heard a noise at the front door. The child thought that someone was trying to break into the house so he woke up his father.

Billy retrieved a gun and approached the front door. Unknown to Billy, his wife had left work early and came home. There was no light on the porch.

When Billy opened the front door, he shot the person on the porch. His wife was hit in the neck and she died. Around 12:30 a.m., officers were sent to the 100 block of Dee Dee Place.

Officers found Gina lying on the front porch with a bullet wound in her neck. Billy was trying to revive his wife. Gina was declared dead on the scene.
