A woman in Ireland, legally changed her name to Donald Trump, in order to raise awareness about a campaign to help her dying husband.

57-year-old Helen Mcdonnell of Kiltimagh, is raising money to help her husband Peter, 58, who is suffering from a terminal lung disease.

Before the recent U.S. election, Mcdonnell wrote: “I’m willing to legally change my name to Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, depending on the outcome of the U.S. Presidential Election on the 8th of November, to raise funds to help save the life of my husband, Peter.”

Now that Donald Trump has been conformed by the Electoral College as the next president, Mcdonnell has filed an application with the High Court, to have her named changed.

Mcdonnell has been married to Peter for 34 years. She said that her husband is her best friend and her life.

After Peter began getting breathless in the summer of 2013, he was diagnosed with IPF, or Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, which causes a hardening of the lungs, a terminal disease for which there is no known cause and no cure.

The only way to help Peter live longer is by receiving a double lung transplant. The last 3 years have been a real struggle for Peter, relying on an oxygen machine to do the most ordinary things.

As his condition deteriorated, Mcdonnell became not only his carer, but also the sole earner. The two exhausted all of their life savings.

Mcdonnell revealed that her nephew came up with the idea to change her name based on the outcome of the U.S. presidential election.

The idea appealed to Peter’s sense of humor.
