Suicide bomber in Istanbul attack identified

Police identified on Dec. 16 one of the perpetrators of the bomb attack in Istanbul which killed 44 people and injured dozens of others, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Istanbul police said the suicide bomber was Burak Yavuz, a 20-year-old man from Turkey’s southeastern province of Şanlıurfa.

On Dec. 10 at around 10.30 p.m., a car bomb went off outsidea football stadium in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş district, two hours after the end of a Turkish League football match.

Seconds later, a suicide bomb attack occurred in Maçka Park in the same neighborhood.

The blasts killed 44 people, mostly police officers, and 56 others are still under treatment at the hospitals, according to Istanbul Governor’s office.

A total of 13 suspects linked to the bombings have been arrested so far.
