A babysitter who was too busy smoking drugs, did not realize that the young girl she was supposed to watch jumped into the pool and drowned, according to police in Florida.

The Palm Bay Police Department said that they have arrested 22-year-old Jacqueline Chiara Bjorndal, following the drowning death of 5-year-old Aubrey Alcott.

Bjorndal has been charged with one count of aggravated manslaughter by neglect of a child. She was booked into the Brevard County Jail, and her bail was set at $50,000.

A judge banned Bjorndal from babysitting children, and she was ordered to stay away from her home. According to the criminal complaint, the girl’s mother left Alcott in the care of Bjorndal.

She told Bjorndal to not allow her child near the pool because she could not swim. Instead of watching the girl, Bjorndal drank alcoholic beverages, and smoked meth and marijuana.

Alcott left the home and jumped into the pool, where she drowned. When Bjorndal’s roommate came home, he noticed a body in the pool.

He pulled her out and called the police.
