Topless man wearing only underpants jumps out of bed and chases hit and run driver for police

Daniel McConnell

An ordinary man is being credited with helping police detain a dangerous hit and run driver in Australia.

Hendra police said that the incident unfolded on Thursday around 2:00 a.m., when a car slammed into a fast food restaurant.

Daniel McConnell, who lives next door to the restaurant, said that he was lying in bed when he heard a loud noise. He quickly jumped out of bed and ran outside to see what happened.

That is when he saw a car inside the restaurant and driver running away from the scene. McConnell, who was dressed only in his underpants, began to follow the 35-year-old driver, who was not identified.

When the driver warned him not to be a hero, McConnell went back home and grabbed the keys to his car. He then followed the suspect with his car until police arrived at the scene.

Police acknowledged that McConnell helped them detain the driver. The driver was charged with unlicensed driving.
