A waiter was jailed and employees were ordered to give a woman cash after she was badly burned for writing a bad review about the restaurant.
A court in China, ordered a restaurant to pay a woman 237,000 yuan ($35,000) in compensation after a waiter poured boiling water all over her body following a dispute.
The woman suffered serious burns to 42 percent of her body.
The shocking incident occurred when the woman, Mrs. Lin, with her family, were having dinner in the Mr Hot Pot restaurant in Wenzhou, along with her mother and her 7-year-old daughter.
During dinner, Lin had an argument with the waiter, who was identified as Zhu, over the amount of water in her hot pot.
After the disagreement, she posted a bad review over the poor service at the restaurant.
Zhu saw the review and demanded that Lin remove it immediately, but she refused. In response, Zhu went to the kitchen and returned with a bowl of hot water.
He poured the steaming hot liquid over the mother’s head before pulling her out of her seat and to the ground, where he beat and kicked her.
Zhu’s coworkers pulled him off the woman and he was arrested.
Zhu was sentenced to 22 months in prison. The judge said he showed leniency because Zhu was only 17 years old at the time of the assault.
Lin also filed a lawsuit against Mr Hot Pot restaurant. She was seeking 577,500 yuan ($85,000) in compensation for her suffering.
The judge said that the restaurant had already paid for Lin’s medical treatment and therefore, the award was reduced to 237,000 yuan ($35,000).
