A pregnant woman was arrested on a charge of battery after allegedly using hot water to burn her boyfriend because he was not paying attention to her, according to police in Florida.
Miami Gardens police said that they have arrested 20-year-old Mary Gaspar, after being accused of ending the football career of her boyfriend, 21-year-old Jonnu Smith.
In court, Gaspar pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated battery.
According to the criminal complaint, Gaspar, who is five months pregnant with Smith’s child, had been angry that her boyfriend was not paying attention to her on Monday.
She boiled a pot of water, and then threw it over him, causing severe burns.
Smith was rushed to the Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he is being treated for burns to his head, neck and shoulder.
Smith was the tight end for the Florida International University football team. He will not return to football due to his extensive injuries.
