Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey are happily divorced.
Cannon finally signed the documents allowing the songstress to remarry just days before she called it quits with billionaire fiancé James Packer, TMZ reported.
The actor, who had reportedly been holding off on signing the pair’s divorce documents, made it official right before Packer, 49, and Carey, 46, got into a fight in Greece, according to the gossip site.
The “Always Be My Baby” singer and Cannon, 35, married in 2008 and filed for divorce in 2015. The couple was granted joint custody of their 5-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, with neither getting child support, according to the gossip site. The pair also had an easy distribution of property, calling for them each to keep what they individually earned during the marriage.
Carey and her Australian businessman fiancé got engaged in January and news of the pair’s bombshell split surfaced last week, although they reportedly hadn’t seen each other since last month.
Just before things went south for the couple, Packer had sent Carey loving emails that read, “marry me soon” and “can’t wait to be together forever,” Us Weekly reported.
“All my love, laughter, light, respect and appreciation and admiration … Thank you my fiancée and soul mate,” he wrote in a message.
He also referred to his fiancée as “MCP,” as an abbreviation for Mariah Carey Packer.
Packer had allegedly flipped out on one of Carey’s backup dancers, Bryan Tanaka, in June in a fit of jealously after he suspected he was getting too close to Mimi, TMZ reported.
Carey and Tanaka have been spotted multiple times since she called off her engagement, including on Saturday night in Los Angeles.
The pop diva also reportedly blames former Scientology honcho Tommy Davis for the split, claiming he started giving Packer advice that changed the course of their relationship, according to TMZ.
Carey refuses to leave the lavish mansion she shared with Packer and is requesting he purchase another pricey property as part of a settlement, TMZ reported.
The powerhouse vocalist allegedly believes she is entitled to the property since she relocated her family to L.A. and had to cancel a portion of her tour following the breakup.
