A man was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty after allegedly shooting his dog to death because it ate his dentures, according to police in West Virginia.
St. Albans police said that they have arrested 63-year-old Charles Gillispie, after being accused of killing his dog because it was annoying.
In court, Gillispie pleaded not guilty to one count of animal cruelty. He was booked into the South Central Regional Jail, and his bail was set at $25,000.
According to the criminal complaint, the incident unfolded on Tuesday, in Gillispie’s home, which is located on West Main Street.
A neighbor called the police to report an incident of animal cruelty.
Police officers who arrived at the scene, observed a small white dog that was locked inside a cage on the front porch of Gillispie’s home.
The dog has two gunshot wounds in his face. It was pronounced dead at the scene. During questioning, Gillispie told police that the dog was annoying.
He complained that it frequently chewed up his stuff, and recently ate his dentures.
