Man charged with animal cruelty for riding his horse from South Carolina to Florida

A man was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty after police determined that his horse was malnourished as a result of traveling from South Carolina to Florida.

Miami police said that they have arrested 36-year-old Christopher Emerson of Greenwood, South Carolina, after traveling with his horse Trigger for about 5 months.

Emerson planned to continue on with his journey to Key West, Florida.

Emerson told police that he had a fight with his wife and ended up getting divorced before deciding to leave for Florida to get away from his old way of life.

Since he wrecked his truck, he decided to get to Florida by riding with his horse Trigger. After riding around with the horse in the streets of Miami for several days, police seized the animal and arrested Emerson on Wednesday.

Police claimed that the horse was not being fed and was malnourished. Emerson said that he does not understand why he was arrested as it is not a crime to ride a horse in the United States.

Emerson said that his brother gave him the horse eight years ago.
