A couple of the United Kingdom, committed suicide shortly after he was cleared of child sex abuse charges as stress of the case was too much for them to handle.
Michael Jones, 59, of Gloucester, was very distraught after he was accused of sexually abusing a child.
Michael was arrested over the charges, but he maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal.
Rachel Jones said that her father described the experience as “hell on earth” and he repeatedly told his family: “I have never laid a finger on a child.”
Michael’s wife Lynette, 56, stood by his side as they fought to clear his name at the Bristol Crown Court. The court case had taken its toll on Michael, and he began suffering health issues.
Lynette was suffering from kidney disease.
A few weeks after Michael was cleared by a jury of the serious child sex abuse allegations, the couple decided to end their suffering.
The couple left a suicide note in which they wrote that they “loved their friends and their family very much.”
Detective Sgt. Damian Davis told the inquest that the couple indicated in the suicide note that what they had done was through their own free will and that “they had just had enough at that time.”
