Doctors cut off extra 11 fingers and toes from 8-month-old boy

hospital in China, has agreed to help a little boy who was born with many extra fingers and toes.

The 8-month-old boy of Ningbo City, was born with 15 fingers and 16 toes.

Doctors suspect that the boy, who suffers from polydactyly, inherited the condition from his mother as she was born with an extra finger on each hand.

The boy, who is being called Hong Hong and Yuan Yuan, was not born with thumbs. Surgeons already began cutting off his extra fingers and toes.

They will also operate on his bones, fingernails and joints. The total cost of the surgeries and rehabilitation was estimated at $75,000.

The No. 6 Hospital promised to offer the parents of the boy a deep discount to the cost of the treatment. Doctors expect to complete the surgeries before the boy turns three years old, but the rehabilitation will take 16 years.
