A bus driver was arrested on a charge of rape after allegedly raping a young girl who fell asleep while in a seat, according to police in Fiji.
Nasinu police said that they have arrested 34-year-old Sanjay Naidu, after being accused of raping the 12-year-old girl who was on her way home.
In court, Naidu pleaded not guilty to one count of rape. He was booked into jail, pending a bail hearing. According to the criminal complaint, the incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon.
The victim had boarded the bus and went to sit in one of the back seats. She fell asleep and missed her stop. The bus driver did not attempt to wake up the child and waited until he completed his route.
Naidu then stopped his bus at one of the stops on Princes Road, where he raped the girl.
