Three children were orphaned and an unborn baby died after police officers opened fire and killed their mother.

Police in Washington, were called on Friday night, to a home on Muckleshoot tribal land by a concerned friend.

The woman said that 23-year-old Renee Davis, who was five months pregnant, was suicidal. The friend also told police that Davis owned a gun and that her two children were inside the home.

Officers said that they knocked on her door several times, but nobody came to the door. When officers saw two young children running around the house, they decided to go inside.

There, police found Davis, who was a single mother, armed with a handgun. Both officers shot at her. Davis and her unborn baby died. Her two children, who are 2 and 4 years old were unharmed.

The officers were placed on paid leave while authorities investigate the incident.

“She needed help, but she got bullets. It doesn’t make sense to me,” neighbor Hunter Vaiese said.
