Mother placed behind bars after her 11-month-old son became malnourished by placing him on vegan diet

A mother was arrested on a charge of child endangerment after her baby was found to be malnourished, according to police in Pennsylvania.

Fayette County police said that they have arrested 33-year-old Elizabeth Hawk, after being accused of feeding her 11-month-old son fruits and nuts.

In court, Hawk pleaded not guilty to one count of child endangerment. She was released from custody without bail.

According to the criminal complaint, when Hawk’s husband, Jerry Hawk, who is the boy’s father, noticed that the child was having delayed motor skills, he took him to the Child Youth Services for an examination.

Doctors found that the 11-month-old boy has been suffering from developmental delays that left him unable to thrive. They also found that his fruit and nut diet was causing physical deterioration.

Elizabeth also failed to treat her son’s rash, and doctors thought that this was inhumane and put the child at risk of septic shock.

Elizabeth is vegan and she wanted her child to be on a strict vegan diet. The child was placed in the custody of his father.
