Mother passes out from overdosing on heroin while 10-month-old son was in back seat of car

 A young mother was arrested on a charge of child neglect after being found passed out in her car with her baby in the back seat, according to police in Indiana.

Hope police said that they have arrested 25-year-old Erika Hurt, after she was found with a heroin needle in her hand while sitting in a car in the parking lot of a Dollar General store.

She was charged with one count each of child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the criminal complaint, Hurt was found unresponsive in front of the wheel of her car on Saturday afternoon.

Hurt had a syringe in her hand, and her 10-month-old son was crying in the back seat. Police revived Hurt with narcan, and she was taken to a hospital, where she was treated and released.

An official with the Department of Social Services arrived at the scene and took custody of the boy. He was later handed over to Hurt’s mother.
