Michael Jackson, Prince and David Bowie among highest-paid dead celebrities

It’s too bad you can’t take it with you.

King of pop Michael Jackson leads the list of late celebrities rolling in the cash from the grave, in a group that also includes famous figures such as Prince and David Bowie who passed this year, a recently released list by Forbes reveals.

The “Bad” singer earned a whopping $825 million in 2016, most likely due to the March sale of half of his Sony/ATV music catalog, which included the Beatles library, Forbes reported.

Pop icon Prince, who died from an accidental drug overdose in April, was also one of the highest earners raking in nearly $25 million, while the late David Bowie made $10.5 million.

Professional golfer Arnold Palmer, who died less than a month ago, also found himself on the list of highest earning deceased celebrities at No. 3, bringing in a whopping $40 million in 2016.

The No. 2 slot may come as a surprise to some. The second place earner was cartoonist Charles Schulz, who created the iconic Peanuts characters.

Schulz earned $48 million in 2016 — six years after his passing. Fellow illustrator Dr. Seuss also held a high spot on Forbes’ list at No. 7.

The rest of the list was rounded out by hit makers like Elvis Presley, Bob Marley and John Lennon.
